Primary Verses:
- Lev. 16:18
-
"And
he shall make an atonement for the holy place,
because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel,
and because of their transgressions in all their sins:
and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the
congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of
their uncleanness. And there shall be no man in the
tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make
an atonement in the holy place, until he come out,
and have made an
atonement for himself, and for his household, and for
all the congregation of Israel. And he
shall go out unto the altar that is before YHVH,
and make an atonement
for it; and shall take of the blood of
the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it
upon the horns of the altar round about."
Supporting Verses:
- Heb. 5:1-3
- "For every high priest taken from among men is
ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he
may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: Who can
have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are
out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed
with infirmity. And
by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also
for himself, to offer for sins."
- Heb. 9:6-7
- "Now when these things were thus ordained, the
priests went always into the first tabernacle,
accomplishing the service of God.
But into the second
went the high priest alone once every year, not without
blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors
of the people:"
