-
Deuteronomy 23:21-23
-
"When
thou shalt vow a vow unto YHVH thy God, thou shalt not
slack to pay it: for YHVH thy God will
surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in
thee. That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt
keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as
thou hast vowed unto YHVH thy God, which thou hast
promised with thy mouth."

Judges 11:30-36

"And
Jephthah vowed a vow unto YHVH, and
said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of
Ammon into mine hands, Then it shall be, that
whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet
me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon,
shall surely be YHVH's, and I will offer it up for a
burnt offering. So Jephthah passed over unto the
children of Ammon to fight against them; and YHVH
delivered them into his hands. And he smote them from
Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty
cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very
great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued
before the children of Israel. And Jephthah came to
Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came
out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she
was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor
daughter. And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he
rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast
brought me very low, and thou art one of them that
trouble me: for I
have opened my mouth unto YHVH, and I cannot go back.
And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened
thy mouth unto YHVH, do to me according to that which
hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as YHVH hath
taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the
children of Ammon."
-
2 Samuel 15:7-9
-
"And it came to pass after forty
years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee,
let me go and pay my
vow, which I have vowed unto YHVH, in
Hebron. For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at
Geshur in Syria, saying, If YHVH shall bring me again
indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve YHVH. And the
king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went
to Hebron."

Psalms 76:11

Psalms 116:18
-
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5
-
"When
thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he
hath no pleasure in fools: pay that
which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest
not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay."
-
Acts 5:1-5
-
"But a certain man named
Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And
kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy
to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the
apostles' feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan
filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep
back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained,
was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not
in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing
in thine heart? thou
hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up
the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard
these things."
-
Acts 18:18
-
"And Paul after this tarried
there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the
brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him
Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea:
for he had a vow."
-
Acts 21:23-26
-
"Do therefore this that we say
to thee: We have four
men which have a vow on them; Them
take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges
with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may
know that those things, whereof they were informed
concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also
walkest orderly, and keepest the law. As touching the
Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded
that they observe no such thing, save only that they
keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from
blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
Then Paul took the
men, and the next day purifying himself with them
entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment
of the days of purification, until that an offering
should be offered for every one of them."
